Hand PlanesCompletely Hand Crafted NAF Flutes, Custom Made to Order...

All of the Cedar Flutes listed on this page are from our "3 Feathers Flutes" line. Each of our 3 Feathers Flutes are completely hand crafted, custom made to order flutes. The price point for a 3 Feathers Flute is much higher than our standard line of flutes which we sell under the name "307 NAF Flutes".

No two flutes from this line are the same. Even though they may be crafted in exactly the same way and from the same wood stocks there will always be subtle differences between them. These are Gallery quality flutes and what really determines if we sell it as a 3 Feathers model 307 Flutesis the amount of hand crafting that goes into them. Owning a 3 Feathers Flute is truly a one of a kind opportunity. Looking for a more modest price flute? Check out our "307 NAF Flute Line" - Click Here...

Port Orford Cedar Flutes

The following flutes are made from Old Growth Port Orford Cedar. If you have never had the pleasure to hold a piece of Port Orford Cedar then you are missing one of natures most pleasant aromas. Port Orford Cedar is actually a type of Cypress but in it's native range it is called Port Orford Cedar. These large trees grow up to 200 feet tall and have trunks with diameters in the 4-6 foot range. They grow only in the southwest part of the Oregon coast and the very northwest part of the California coast up to about 1500 feet in elevation. Most of our NAF flutes that we craft from Port Orford Cedar come from Older Growth logs that we search hard to find. A Port Orford Cedar flute is a really nice instrument.

Port Orford Cedar FluteDuring the Western Design Conference we had two NAF flutes crafted from a piece of Old Growth Port Orford Cedar. One of our favorite woods to work with, Port Orford Cedar makes for a beautiful sounding flute. This flute was one of two (twins) that we made from the same stock of wood. This flute has a inlay of Old Growth Walnut for the fipple or cutting edge of the sound Port Orford Cedar Flutehole. This is a five hole flute tuned to the Key of F @ 440Hz.

The fetish is made from a piece of Old Growth Walnut and it is our representation of a feather. Inset into the barrel of the flute is a square malachite cabachon between the second and third finger holes. We have added three yellow Flicker Feathers (hand painted) that hang from the center of the flute. Leather accents on this flute are buckskin deer lace adding a nice contrast to the color of the cedar. The finish has over 20 coats of hand rubbed lacquer and has a soft satin look. This Port Orford flute was one that was part of the presentation at the Western Desgin Conference held in Jackson Hole Wyoming as is an award winning flute. If you are interested in the flute please contact us via email, sales@tetonmarketing.com. Be sure to reference the Port Orford Flute in your subject line.

Western Cedar Native American Flute3 Feathers Western Cedar Flute - Key of G (Click on images to enlarge)

This flute is available at the Jackson Hole Trading Company Gallery - Click here for their website.

This new five hole flute is made from Western Cedar and plays in the key of G. Like many of our flutes the windway is inset with Ironwood and the fetish on top is our Otter design and is attached to the flute with dark brown deer skin leather. The overall length of this flute is 23 1/2 inches and the barrel is 7/8 of an inch diameter on the inside. The inside of the flute was also finished with several coats of lacquer to seal the inside of the flute to help with moisture. On the barrel of the flute we have inset four turquoise cabochons that are in line with the playing holes.

The foot of the flute has been braided with the same dark brown colored deer skin leather only the lace is smaller in diameter. Hanging from the center of the flute just below the true sound hole is horse hair that is both Sorrel and White in color. We finished this flute with about 10 coats of Deft Lacquer that is also hand rubbed to give it a nice soft touch. Because this flute is made from Western Cedar and Western Cedar is very soft you need to be careful as it will dent and mark easily.

Western Cedar has a very warm sound to it and we really like the tone this flute puts out. One of the factors we use to determine Western Cedar Native American Flutethe price of the flute is how easily the flute plays. Another factor is how forgiving the flute is when played. This flute plays beautifully but it is not as forgiving as some of the flutes we produce. The more experienced flute players would not have any trouble with this flute but the beginner may need to learn to play it with a softness on some of the lower notes. Overall this is a really nice flute that look good, plays good and sounds very nice. This is a good buy for someone looking for a Cedar flute that plays in the key of G. If you have questions about this specific flute please feel free to contact us sales@tetonmarketing.com.
