Ironwood Flute - Key of G (click on images to enlarge)
This is a very nice five hole flute made completly from Ironwood. We use alot of Ironwood for our fetishes and parts for our windways in many of our flutes. This flute is a physically beautiful color and because of the wood itself it is a very heavy flute. The dark rich brown color of the wood clearly stands out and the finish is very smooth to the touch. The flute is 24 inches in length and the bore of the barrel is approximately 1 inch.
This flute plays beautiful but in our opinion is a bit brighter in its sound because of the dense qualities of the wood. It is very easy to play and is very forgiving in all keys of the flute. The barrel of the flute is decorated with two tear drop shaped turquoise stones and a band of buck skin colored leather with black horse hair that hangs just below the true sound hole. The fetish is also made of ironwood and represents an antelope or elk depending on your enterpretation. The fetish is held on with a strap of buckskin colored deer hide and the bottom of the barrel is decorated with a braiding of buckskin colored deer hide as well.
The price for this flute is higher because of the total man hours that went into creating it. Ironwood although beautiful to look at - it is very hard to work and finish. This would be a very nice flute that could easily become a center piece in your home or office but also one that you can enjoy playing. I like this flute and I am sure you will too.
